FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. Does the 300SLR. come as a kit project as well as a turn-key? A. We offer the 300SLR in various stages of completeness, The factory will partially build the 300SLR for you doing the harder mechanical part of the project to what we call the rolling chassis stage. This gives you a great head start on the project. Q. If I decide to build it myself what donor parts do I have to supply? A. The frame comes set-up to receive the Mustang II front and rear suspension which is the independent type in the front with ventilated disk brakes and rack and pinion steering. This combination gives excellent handling characteristics. The most popular engine options are the GM 350 V/8 or the Ford 302 V/8 with either automatic or manual transmission. Additional donor car parts are: steering column, pedal assembly and wiring harness, from the Mustang II. Additional donor car parts are the rollup side windows and top bows from a MGB convertible. Q. Does the 300 SLR come as a kit project as well as a Turn-Key? A. Yes as well as several steps in between. The factory will partially build the 300 SLR for you, doing the harder mechanical part of the project, what we call the rolling chassis stage, leaving the finish up part of the project for you to do or have done locally. This gives you a leg up on the construction process. Q. What creature comforts are available? A. Power steering, power brakes power windows, automatic transmission, heat, air and defrost, leather interior with burl-wood dash and trim is also available. Q. I'm not a mechanic, is this a project that a non-professional car reasonably do? A. Building the 300 SL is mostly a bolt together operation. Our Builders Assembly Book leads one through the entire process, starting with the tools that will be required and suggesting easy shortcuts to make the project manageable for the novice.
